The brochure of the network in its 2015 version has been updated with the new Chambers that have decided to join the network: Bari, Chie), Lecce, Siena and Taranto. Also updated paths in the network between the neighboring territories: North East (Udine), North West (Genoa and La Spezia), Center (Perugia, Siena, Chie)), South East (Bari, Matera and Taranto, Brindisi, Lecce) and South west (Messina).
Italian tourism is experiencing a season among the more fortunate. The twelve Chambers of Commerce - that are members of the Mirabilia network - will meet in Lipari, at the very heart of the Aeolian Islands, on October 12th and 13th, to participate to the fourth edition of the “International Exchange of cultural tourism”.
The challenge we have to face has not changed since 2012, the year zero of Mirabilia: what we aim at is attracting the interest and attention of millions of tourist who visit Italy every year and want to visit the traditional “Grand tour” places and accompany them to visit new places instead: they may be little known, but it does not mean that they are less interesting or exciting. Twelve wonders that have been already recognized or that are being recognized as such by Unesco, and they are definitely worth the trip: they will take the travellers’ breath away, in exactly the same way as in the days of old, when pilgrims travelling to Rome used to follow the “Mirabilia Urbis Romae”.
Let’s visit these wonders then: first Aquileia, the most important Roman site of Northern Italy, which is located in a still untouched natural environment, and then Genoa, where in the 1600s the aristocratic families of the Republic invented a very peculiar public accommodation system that relied on private properties, the system known as the Palazzi dei Rolli. And then lets’ go east! We’ll reach the Cinque Terre, a natural and human masterpiece, and the neighbouring villages of Lerici and Portovenere. Siena comes next, and its very famous Piazza del Campo; let’s travel to Central Italy next and we’ll visit Assisi and the Cathedral of Saint Francis, the Franciscan sites, everything is surrounded by an extraordinary natural environment which is able to inspire a deep and strong spirituality. Chieti is characterised by its transhumance tracks and paths, which were created many centuries ago to meet the need of pastoralism and were praised by Gabriele d'Annunzio.
Matera now - a town rich in cave art - which has been modified and new buildings constructed for eight centuries, and visitors enjoy its unique urban architecture. Puglia is our next destination, which has lately added a few valuable jewels to the Mirabilia crown: the Trulli in Alberobello and those located in the Itria and Murgia Valleys, the Salento treasures, the Otranto hamlet and the beautiful patterns of the Baroque style of Lecce; then Taranto, the ancient capital of Magna Grecia. And here we are: the Aeolian Islands! They are our current destination, seven Mediterranean gems rich in history, myths and legends.
Twelve Chambers of Commerce are at the heart of this fascinating journey (Bari, Brindisi, Chieti, Genova, La Spezia, Lecce, Matera, Messina, Perugia, Siena, Taranto, Udine): they have decided to work together to enhance the beauty of these places by involving companies and communities in a project aiming at developing a repeatable model of cultural economy.
Mirabilia was created in 2012, and started by the Chamber of Commerce of Matera, which is still the leading partner, and five pilot Chambers, which became nine in 2013, ten in 2014 and twelve in 2015. The heart of the project is the “International Exchange of cultural tourism”, the business to business event where the offer coming from these twelve destinations meets the demand of the big international tourist buyers who have been selected by TTG Italia and, as of this year, Assocamerestero.
After meeting in Lerici (2012), Matera (2013) and Perugia (2014), in 2015 the event is held in Lipari: the island and the other Aeolian gems became a Unesco World Heritage site in 2000.
The “Oil Event” is one the changes of this year’s edition. What we are attempting at is connecting beauty and taste by promoting an event dedicated to foreign buyers specialized in the oils produced in the Mirabilia destinations.
In conclusion, we are facing a challenge - that was launched by the organizing Chambers of Commerce: we need to develop an entrepreneurial network which may turn the offers coming from the Mirabilia destinations dedicated to international buyers into products which can be integrated and sold all year long.

Mirabilia Network is an annual appointment, with several moments of promotion on international markets and a fixture meeting at the end of year: the "International Exchange of Cultural Tourism", a business to business meeting between the offer of the partner territories and demand of major international tourism buyers.
After the events of Lerici (2012), Matera (2013), Perugia (2014), Lipari (2015) and Udine (2016), the Exchange will take place this year in Verona from 23th to 24th of October in 2017.
The design process aims to promote an integrated tourist offer of the "lesser known", which makes it possible to see and use the links between touristic areas interesting and united by the UNESCO recognition and to propose them to an increasingly attentive and demanding international audience for cultural tourism of great quality. It is a galaxy of "lesser goals" (certainly not for their value), which are connoted as true "tourist pearls" for quality, excellence, uniqueness of their cultural essence.The project is therefore intended as an opportunity for deepening and knowledge for the promotion of Unesco sites "less known" through their respective landscapes, historical, artistic and enogastronomic heritage and offering great potential and great intrinsic value to be stimulated, valorized, Discover and connect to the network.
Udine's event, organized by the nine member Chambers, recorded 120 participating companies, 40 international buyers with more than 2,000 B2B meetings, Japan-focused collateral events and Enterprise Networks, enhancing the European Network with international agreements between Foreigns Chambers of Commerce especially with French ones.
