Situated in the Veneto region in the north of Italy, Verona is a must-see city for those visiting the area. A stroll through its streets transports the traveller from imperial Rome through the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the periods of French and Austrian rule, up to the present.
In 2000 Verona was listed as a World Heritage site by the UNESCO Committee, being an example of an Italian city that in its urban structure and architecture is an outstanding example of a town that has developed progressively and uninterruptedly over two thousand years, incorporating artistic elements of the highest quality from each succeeding period.
Verona still feels like its Shakespearean legacy, and it is possible to recall the main moments of the timeless love story of Romeo and Juliet strolling around the streets of the city. It’s also why Verona is called “the city of love.”
Elegant cafés and ancient “osterie” (typical inns of the Veneto territory), craftsman shops and high couture shops enliven city life all year long. Verona is a man-sized city which fascinates visitors with its elegance and its welcoming atmosphere, in which ancient and modern times meet.
In the historical centre Roman ruins, medieval vestiges, Venetian and Austrian traces can be seen all across the city, as well as antique palaces, squares, bridges and wonderful churches: Piazza Bra and the Arena, Piazza Erbe and Piazza dei Signori, the Roman Theatre and Ponte Pietra, Castelvecchio and Lamberti Tower, the Cathedral and the San Fermo church.
A key determinant of the city is the Arena, the third greatest amphitheatre in the world. Built in the first half of the I century AD, this monument hosts various kinds of musical and theatrical performances: the opera season, concerts of the most famous singers, ballet exhibitions. The amphitheatre has a perfect acoustics and it can host up to 22.000 people.
PESCHIERA DEL GARDA (VERONA) (UNESCO SITE SINCE 2017) INCLUDED AMONG THE VENETIAN WORKS OF DEFENSE BETWEEN 15TH AND 17TH CENTURIES: STATO DA TERRA-WESTERN STATO DA MAR
These defensive works, realized by the Republic of Venice, have an exceptional historic and architectonic value. They date back to the middle age and to more recent times (due to the modifications and additions made during the Napoleonic and Ottoman eras).
The works of defense realized in Bergamo, Palmanova and Peschiera del Garda in Italy, Zadar and Šibenik in Croatia and Kotor in Montenegro are all part of the Unesco Site.
The fortified city of Peschiera del Garda, by the Lake Garda, was used as a link between Venice and its western territories sited past the River Mincio.
It is characterized by a pentagonal plan and it includes the residential area and and some rivers, like the Canale di Mezzo, tributary to the River Mincio, which was navigable ever since the Roman era.
When the fortress of Peschiera del Garda was conquered by the Republic of Venice, the fortified walls were modernized with the introduction of ramparts and bastions to the five angles of the Medieval city walls.

Visit of the Arena, the Roman amphitheater located in the lively Piazza Bra. Visit of Piazza delle Erbe and piazza dei Signori and Juliet’s house with the most famous balcony in the world. The path continues to the ancient church of Sant’Anastasia, and ends in Castelvecchio, symbol of the Scaligerian Verona.
The Valpolicella hills, a harmonious area blend of history and culture.. Also worthy of note is the production of its wines and Valpolicella Extre Virgin Olive Oil. Valpolicella is rich in elegant villas which, thanks to the exterior architectural beauty and magnificent examples of Italian gardens, are now considered milestones in the area. In the afternoon we will discover the Eastern part of Verona Province, starting with Soave, completely surrounded by the walls of its castle.
We will visit Peschiera, recently listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List for its Venetian Defense System made by the Republic of Venice between the 16th and 17th Century. Following the paths of the Riviera degli Olivi, you will discover fresh fish, extra-virgin olive-oil and wines (Bardolino, Bianco di Custoza and Lugana). The tour ends at Malcesine, where the Malcesine – Monte Baldo cable car, that will allow us to fully appreciate the unique panorama of Monte Baldo and Lake Garda.
