Sassari Chamber of Commerce

All of Sardinia is a treasure to discover with unique and different beauties in  every territory. It incorporates centuries of stories and traditions, some of which are still alive such as the Descent of the Candelieri, which takes place in Sassari and was included by UNESCO among the Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2013, as an integral part of the Italian Network of Large Shoulder Machines. The festival was born from a vow made to the Virgin Mary Assumption, who saved the city from the plague in 1652. A vow that the Gremi (ancient arts and crafts) dissolve every year: each guild is identified by a Candlestick (huge wooden candle with weight of 300/400 kilos).
