In 2016, the Italian and Slovenian candidacy project was launched for the inscription in the UNESCO World Heritage site: “Collio (ITA)/Brda (SLO) rural landscape between Isonzo and Judrio”.
The Collio area, between Judrio to the west and Isonzo to the east, covers an area of 1500 hectares of vineyards in eight of the twenty-five municipalities of the Gorizia province. Capriva, Cormòns, Dolegna del Collio, Farra d’Isonzo, Gorizia, Mossa, San Floriano del Collio, and San Lorenzo Isontino are characterized by reliefs and valleys that, due to the particular environmental conditions, have favored the development of a fine viticulture and the production of excellent quality white wines, recognized all over the world. Collio Bianco is the result of a combination of different grapes.
The native vines in the Collio area are Malvasia, Picolit, Ribolla Gialla and Friulano. Some of these can boast very ancient origins.
