  • Historical Centre of Urbino

    Unesco site since 1998

On the hills overlooking the Marche Adriatic Sea there is Urbino, a small town, but full of wonderful surprises and a history to discover. From a medieval village, it became a splendid princely court and a centre of attraction for Italian and foreign artists and scholars. It has come to us intact, as the culmination of Renaissance art and architecture.

The UNESCO site “Historical Center of Urbino”, which extends for just over a square kilometer, was inscribed in 1998 and coincides with the area bordered by the Renaissance walls, still preserved in their entirety. It includes, within the historic city, some buildings of extraordinary value, such as the Ducal Palace, the Cathedral, the Monastery of Santa Chiara and a complex system of Oratories.
